What is the actual idea of the Internet?...to join all world computers in a single network.
But what’s the advantage to join them if they can combine forces..That is where collaboration comes.
Internet applications were a bit late actually to understand the need for building applications were netizens can contribute in a task accomplishment without having to go down the familiar road of making file changes -> e-mail -> get the reviewed version, -> track changes -> accept/reject changes ...and all over again.
Parallel work not vertical. So the most known tools are nowadays starting to use the internet, than be used, in their all new a collaborative-suit. For example...
Office tools:
Microsoft Office, threaten by the very user friendly (as always) Google Docs (which first recognized the need), advanced to Microsoft office 2007 with much more sharing and collaborating features.
Organization tools:
Mind map like the first Freemind applications started becoming deemed to managers of all kinds, (but especially in the IT sector)some years back, but they still were single-person files. Their transformation lead the next step like Mindmeister and WiseMapping, where you do all the work from your browser with no need of any application download and every advantage of sharing along and contribute with co-workers in the same map.
That’s a very small example of what is to come, cause this is only the beginning.
